The Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) 2005, states that it is a legal requirement for all businesses to have a Fire Risk Assessment for their premises in place, and for it to have been conducted and written up by a 'Competently Trained Person'. It also requires employers to provide adequate Fire Safety training for their staff. This could consist of Fire Awareness or Fire Marshall/ Fire Warden training as appropriate.

Failure to comply with this legislation can result in large fines, or in some cases up to 2 years imprisonment. Many businesses will suffer personal injury to staff or public, loss of production and on some occasions loss of premises. Unfortunately some never recover.

It is important, therefore, that all businesses have an up to date Fire Risk Assessment in place and for staff to undergo regular Fire Training. People's actions in the event of fire are critical. The prevention of personal injury, fire spread and the safety of colleagues and members of the public is of paramount importance. Excellent quality fire training, therefore, is a fundamental necessity.
